British Red Cross teams up with Sheffield United f 09/12/2009
The British Red Cross will stage Giggle Aid, its first comedy fundraising event, in the prestigious Platinum Suite at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane football ground on Wednesday 9 December, to raise funds for its South Yorkshire Ambulance Appeal.

Individual tickets cost only £10 for the evening, which will showcase ten emerging local comedians and other acts, who are donating their time for the cause; and is also promising to feature "fun, engaging and unexpected elements" for up to 400 people on the night.

All funds raised will go towards a new ambulance, which is urgently needed to help the Red Cross respond to emergencies, provide first aid cover at events and transport patients to and from hospital in the community. The ambulance will be based at the Red Cross’s Sheffield office and will serve people across South Yorkshire.

Local stand-up, CK Goldiing will host the evening. Since starting his comedy journey in March 2009, CK has performed twice for Sheffield’s Last Laugh comedy brand, ABBCOM Comedy (Abbeydale Road), and in comedy clubs all around the North of England, including the famous Jongleurs in Leeds – where he is currently competing in FHM’s ‘Comedy Hero’ search for emerging stand-ups.

The recently refurbished venue can seat up to 400 people cabaret style in the heart of the famous stadiums South Stand. It has a bar and is a great venue for the works Christmas night out.

Max Newton, Senior Fundraiser, said:
“It’s going to be a cracking cavalcade of comedy – for charity! Up to 400 people are going to be able to come together in a wonderful venue, have a ripe old giggle, and raise funds to build a Red Cross ambulance to serve and save the lives of people in South Yorkshire.

We’re extremely grateful to Sheffield Utd. for donating use of the Platinum Suite and all the acts are donating their time for free. So, every penny raised from ticket sales will go directly to the Red Cross Ambulance Appeal.”

The Red Cross is encouraging the whole community to support the appeal – including schools, businesses, community groups and individuals. The Red Cross has broken down the cost of the ambulance, so people can set themselves a fundraising target if they want to get involved.

For example:
you can buy a wheel for £250
a bag and oxygen mask for £8.95
or a heart start defibrillator for £1575.

Ticket cost just £10 for the whole evening’s entertainment. Contact the ticket HOTLINE on 0114 242 7379 or email mnewton@redcross.org.uk There is Facebook group - search for Giggle Aid.
